 The film that inspired me to chose the action genre was the movie abducted as it has a very similar plot it shows a war heros daughter that gets kidnapped and he goes back to save her as our scene shoes an ex military mans best friend that gets kidnapped and he goes back to save him. I find these types of plots very entertaining and this inspired me to choose this plot this is the movie Abduction down below.

  Media codes include the  use of camera, acting, setting, mise en scene, editing, lighting, sound, special effects, typography, colour, visual composition, text and graphics . These are important to films because conventions are what makes a film known and recognisable without codes and conventions films would not be the same. Media codes are the physical elements that audiences experience which brings narrative conventions to the media forms. 

 Our teacher had told us to research about the different types of editing so here are the definitions about them: CONTINUITY EDITING This editing technique creates an ongoing stream of  action . CONTINUITY ERROR This type of mistake happens when inconsistent actions or visual elements appear in shots. CROSS-CUTTING This technique gives the appearance that two storylines are happening simultaneously. CUT Use cuts to transition from one shot into another. CUTAWAY This technique refers to a shot from another scene interrupting an action shot. DISSOLVE This occurs when the beginning of one shot gradually overlaps the end of another. EDITING Editing involves choosing and combining film footage to create a complete story. EDITING PROCESS The  film editing process  is part of the  post-production  process and involves either physical film or digital technology.   Ferdinand De Saussure suggests that semiotics is the study of signs within the society. He argues that language is an instrument of communication using signs in culture to communicate meaning. He believes that anything and everything that has the potential to communicate meaning through its language may be studied as linguistic signs. He believes that a sign is composed of a  signifier  and a  signified.  A signifier is the form a sign basically takes and a signified is the concept it represents. For example the colour blue itself will only and simply the colour blue as a signifier. But a signified colour blue would represent the calmness and peacefulness or positivity of that colour. 

 Our film opening task was kept mysterious and suspesnful after a lot of brainstorming we came up with the idea of the ex military man wanting to live a normal life after retiring from the military but is forced back into violence because of his wealthy friend but was bored with living a normal life and missed getting into action.

  Action is the genre we chose this genre is loved by many people and that is because of how suspensful and different action movies are the audience can never know what will happen next.  T hey have perfect choreography and the right direction. Some sci-fi and fantasy movies also incorporate ideas from the action genre to keep their audience on the edge of their seats. People love action movies as they are very dangerous and have life risking stunts involved these dangerous scenes cause the audience to get excited therefor keeping the audience more entertained. Action movies are capable of making audiences have physical reactions too where they jump out of their seats. Action movies usually contain many elements for e.g an intense setting this must include a dangerous environment where conflict is going on.   In most opening scenes of films social groups and social issues are usually represented for e.g some types of social groups are ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, age, ability and disability. For e.g in a children's movie where there are mostly kids this will represent age as it shows immaturity and young kids. Other examples can be racism, when there is unfair employment and work getting shown within a movie.

 The genre of our film project is action as it shows a man getting kidnapped who has to get rescued by his military friend. We chose action as all of my teammates including me love suspenseful action films ever since we were little kids and all our favourite movies are action one of my favourite movies is Jack reacher man character is played by Tom Cruise. 

  Today in class me and my team mates discussed a few film opening ideas that we could base our project on this is what we came up with.

Film  genres are categories that define a movie based on its narrative elements. There are many different types of genres : There are 8 basic genres such as action, comedy drama, fantasy , horror, action, mystery, romance, thriller With type of genre there are certain things the audience watching expect from it for example the horror genre  There is dark colour grading, certain camera shots, mis-en-scene and sound is done in a way to give this eerie and scary feeling to the viewer  Like with romance genre there is a more soft colour grading, romantic music to give the romance feeling to the viewer There are certain conventions of posters and texts in the movie as well e.g horror movie poster would have red colour in it or black colour in it whereas romance posters would have brighter colours such as blue, yellow, white and it would be pleasing to look at   With genre it is easier for audience to watch something they like 

The rule of thirds is  a composition guideline that places your subject in the left or right third of an image, leaving the other two thirds more open . While there are other forms of composition, the rule of thirds generally leads to compelling and well-composed shots. The importance of it is that it  helps draw the viewer's eye into the image and places more emphasis on the subject . Ideally, the empty space that's left should be in the direction the subject is looking or heading into. The rule of thirds doesn't work 100 percent of the time though.
